Briony said she was originally inspired by her nan’s baking wisdom. She decided to go into the tent for herself and to make her family proud.

Luke was also inspired by his Nan — some of his earliest memories are standing on a step ladder to reach the worktop and help her bake!

Rahul bakes as a sweet treat for his colleagues. One of them persuaded him to apply for the show, and the rest is Bake Off history.

Jon loves wowing his friends and family with his creations. He bakes as a way to unwind and spend quality time with his family after a hard day’s work.

Karen baked with her mum when she was little, but truly embraced it after living in France and being surrounded by stunning pâtisserie. Her daughters encouraged her to apply to The Great British Bake Off.

Antony learned to bake with his father, and it’s his father who still inspires his kitchen creations today.

Ruby’s love of baking grew when she became the adoptive ‘mother’ of seven male housemates at uni (remind you of anyone?). Her strongest childhood memories of baking are of her mother’s Indian sweets.

Manon also learned to bake with her mother and grandmother, but it was in London that she truly found her passion when she was inspired by the city’s many bakeries.

As a father to two small children, Dan sees home baking as a way to make sure family meal times become family memories.

Imelda learned to bake from her mother, and now bakes for her husband, son, colleagues and large family gatherings.

As a small child, Terry learned to bake with his grandmother, while his father taught him how to make bread and pastry when he was just 10 years old. His daughters encouraged him to apply for the show.

Kim-Joy was born to bake — her birthday falls on World Baking Day! She loves reflecting her heritage in her baking.

So that’s how the Series Nine bakers discovered their passion and skill, but what about Series 10?
