About this Bake

I used 2 x 4inch and 2 x 6inch cake tins and made a six-egg Madeira recipe. The four-inch ones took about 30 mins to cook and the six-inch about 45 mins. I used butter icing thinly on all sides of the cakes and then wrapped them in black fondant icing.

Top tip

Use a fairly solid cake like Madeira cake. Madeira cake was better than Victoria sponge as it was denser and held its shape when on its side. The pin was made from the inner tube of a silver foil roll.
