About this Bake
This cake was inspired by the festive season. Christmas is associated with the colour red (Santa, Rudolph etc) so I used this colour to give my cake a festive feel. Contrasting this with white makes the cake very eye-catching and provides a subtle hint of the winter weather.
Top tip
To produce a neat crumb coat, I put some buttercream in a separate bowl so the crumbs don't mix with the rest of the buttercream. I apply the buttercream to the cake with a scraper to make the texture smooth around the edges, which makes the cake much easier to decorate.
