A chin-wag with Nicola Adams OBE

Nicola Adams OBE is more of a boxer than a baker and prior to arriving in the tent had never baked anything in her life. So how was she planning to deliver a knockout showstopper?

So, Nicola: can you bake?

No. This was my first time baking. I was quite impressed, I was really nervous going into it, I just followed the instructions.

What is your personal signature dish?

I like spaghetti bolognese but I can’t make it myself. I literally can’t cook whatsoever!

Are you more likely to get a Hollywood handshake, or a soggy bottom?

Probably the soggy bottom.

Why are you supporting Stand Up To Cancer?

My mum has breast cancer so I’m trying to raise awareness and to help other people.  And by taking on the new challenge of baking it’ll help other people take on new challenges and raise money for charity.

Have you practised your bakes for today?

No, I didn’t get the chance because I was fighting last Saturday, so I was focused on my competition.  So I haven’t had the chance to do anything, but it shows that everybody can go out and try something new.  It’s all about giving it a go.

Are you competitive? Do you want to be the star baker?

I am competitive, I just don’t know if I can pull off being a star baker, especially with the likes of Greg, who is a seasoned cook.  I’m happy that I’m just giving it a go.

Are you a traditionalist or do you like experimenting with food?

I like experimenting and trying new things.

If you were a baked good what would you be?

A cookie.
