Pud-bye to Michelle

1920s Week had Michelle and Helena in a bit of a flapper. Sadly, in a double elimination, print shop administrator Michelle didn’t make it through to another week. The 35 year old shared her thoughts from her time in the tent:

‘I got halfway through, I never imagined that. I never set myself a goal of how far I could get, so halfway was amazing. I was just so happy to get into the tent! I hope I have made Wales proud of me, I tried to fly the flag for Wales this year, and I didn’t want to disappoint anyone. I gave it my all and I really tried in all of my bakes to introduce a little bit of Wales into the tent. I have had such a great reaction everywhere I go and they shout my name so I know that they have all been rooting for me.  The support in Wales has been totally amazing and every bit of feedback is positive.

‘My overall best bit was actually getting into the tent as I have wanted it for such a long time, as well as making lifelong friends with the other bakers. My worst bit was leaving when I did because I felt I had so much more to give. Throughout the series I was quite emotional, I am very facially expressive and I cry when I am happy and cry when I am sad. I did cry in the very first episode when I called my husband to tell him that I had won Star Baker.

‘I just hope that the people who have seen me on the show it will encourage them to bake and also any amateur bakers out there to apply for the show next time. It took me a long time to get in the tent, but I don’t regret one second of it. It’s been one of the best experiences of my life. Since the series started, I have been in a happy place for a long time, and I always have a smile on my face.

‘I will continue to make each theme from that particular week, and watching my friends [the other bakers] survive and see who goes out each week. I watch at home with my husband and son, they have been my rock throughout and we really enjoy watching it together.

‘I couldn’t wish to have left with anyone nicer than Helena, and I think that the tent would have been a bit quieter the next week without the two of us making our usual noise. There are no regrets, from me, but it would have been nice to have had more information and recipe detail for the Technicals, ha ha. Perhaps they can introduce that next year for the new bakers?’

Michelle and Helena will both join Jo Brand on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice on Friday 27th September at 8pm on Channel 4.
